Do you find the “famous” Korean 10-step beauty routine too intimidating? We all do, the 10-step beauty routine is rewarding but notoriously long and extensive. However, the 10-step routine is not the only solution to beautiful glowing skin. You can start with the 5 or 7-step beauty routine as well. The 5-step beauty routine is more beginner friendly, therefore, you should take a start with it.
5 Step Korean Beauty Routine for Beginners
The Korean day and night beauty routine is not the same. It is mainly because our skin’s day and night requirements are different. The day beauty routine is designed to moisturize and protect the skin. Whereas, the night routine focuses on restoration.
Day Beauty Routine
Before stepping out, you have to do the following
Double Cleansing – The first and most crucial step in the Korean 5, 7, 10, and 12-step beauty routines is the double cleansing. No matter what skin type is, all Korean women cleanse their face with an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser. The oil-based cleansers contain non-comedogenic oils that remove stubborn makeup and dirt without clogging the pores.
Once the oil-based cleanser has done its magic, the water-based cleanser is applied. It removes other impurities and makes the skin ready for the next step. The water-based cleansers come in the form of foam, gel, or cream, which leaves the skin smooth, fresh, and glowing.
Toner – We might not know the value of a toner but Korean women do. Therefore, you are supposed to apply a generous amount of toner in the second step. It balances the pH level, restores the lost nutrients, and preps the skin to absorb serum or moisturizer more effectively.
Facial Treatment – The facial treatment is chosen according to the skin type. The two facial treatments that Korean women swear by are hyaluronic acid and vitamin C. Hyaluronic acid cures dehydrated skin whereas vitamin C brightens it up. There are plenty of other options as well. Pick a facial treatment that suits your condition and absorb it into the skin as well.
Moisturizer – Moisturizing the skin to perfection is the fourth step in a 5-step Korean beauty routine. You can use any moisturizer that claims to treat dryness and flakiness and protects the skin from external factors. However, keep in mind moisturizers should be chosen according to the skin type. Gel moisturizers suit oily skin and cream moisturizers are good for dry skin. However, if you have normal skin, you can pick any moisturizer.
Sunscreen – Whether you are following a Korean skincare routine or not, Sunscreen is a must. It protects the skin from harmful UV rays and helps in minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. So, wind up your day’s beauty routine with good sunscreen before heading out.
Night Beauty Routine
To get clear, happy, and glowing skin the next morning, here is what you have to do.
Double Cleansing – Korean women do not just double cleanse their face in the morning, they do it at night well. First of all, you are supposed to use an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup and dirt from the face. It is because water-based cleansers can not remove makeup as efficiently as oil ones do. Once the makeup is removed, you have to repeat the same process with the water-based cleanser.
Exfoliate – Our skin needs gentle exfoliation at night. Therefore, it’s crucial to break down dead skin and get fresher healthier skin. There are many exfoliators in the market. However, the exfoliator with glycolic acid and fruit extracts is best for the job.
Hydrate and Tone – Once the exfoliation is done, you have to hydrate and tone. There is no need to layer your skin with a heavy product and make it greasy. Also, avoid using alcohol-based products at this stage. They are super harsh and don’t do any good. Find a good two-in-one product that leaves your skin rebalanced, hydrated, plump, and glowing.
Facial Treatment – You can use the serum or an ampoule at this point. However, most Korean women prefer an ampoule at night. Ampoule is a charged version of serum. They target various skin concerns such as discoloration, dark spots, dullness, dryness, and aging.
Eye Cream – Korean women do understand that the skin around eyes needs attention as well. Therefore, the last step in the 5-step night beauty routine is eye cream. Find a good quality eye cream and apply a generous amount to treat the dark circles, minimize puffiness, boost hydration, and prevent signs of aging.
